The Band of the Welsh Guards was formed in 1915 in the same year as the Regiment.  Their first instruments were presented by the City of Cardiff, an act that enabled the band to carry out its first King’s Guard Mounting on St. David’s Day, 1916. That very evening, the band gave its first concert on the stage of the London Opera House, and immediately established a reputation for high musical standards.

Amongst the band's roles, the focus is State Ceremonial events such as providing music for the Changing of the Guard Ceremonies at both Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

Travelling to Germany in August 2021 the band performed at the 75th birthday celebration of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at which Angela Markel, Chancellor of Germany was present.

In April 2022, the band were extremely excited to welcome Director of Music Major Lauren Petritz-Watts. Since arriving she has led the Band of the Welsh Guards in performances in the Gardens of Buckingham Palace and at the FA Cup final alongside the Bands of the Coldstream and Irish Guards. In July 2022 the Band travelled to Basel, Switzerland to perform at the Basel International Tattoo.

When Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022 the band were honoured to be involved in her State Funeral which was viewed by a peak audience of 29 million people.
