The Guards Magazine

Subscriptions (hardcopy and digital)

The Guards Magazine continues to be very popular but we have had numerous requests for it to be available to be read in digital form as well as hard copy.  We also have a significant archive of previous editions dating back to 1862, representing a remarkable historical record. We have enlisted the professional services of the British Library to digitise our entire back catalogue and individual and institutional subscribers will now be able to read the current edition online and explore the archive in an electronically searchable format.

We are now finalising the arrangements for digital subscribers.  For existing subscribers, if you do nothing, you will continue to receive the hard copy edition as you do now.  If you want digital access as well, you will need to fill out the direct debit form and cancel any existing Standing Orders. You will then receive the hard copy edition along with the ability to read the current edition online and to access the archive back to 1862.  We will recoup the costs of the digitisation project through Exact Editions’ ability to leverage institutional subscribers (libraries, think tanks, museums, genealogy companies etc.) who will pay a higher fee for corporate access.

If you wish to read the current and past editions online as well as receiving a hard copy, all you need to do is to complete a direct debit mandate through Go Cardless, our direct debit provider.  The table below shows for the appropriate category and the relevant link. Remember, anyone who wants to continue to receive the hard copy of their Guards Magazine as they do now, without any digital access, does not need to do anything.  Please note those wishing to subscribe solely to a hard copy or digital copy only will not gain any discount on their subscription by foregoing part of any package.

The links below should be used by subscribers to set up the appropriate Direct Debit.  Once an application has been registered with Go Cardless, each subscriber will receive their Unique Identification Number (UIN) from the Treasurer’s Office at Horse Guards.  They will also receive instructions on how to gain access to both their digital copies and the archives via the Exact Edition’s website: New subscribers (ie those not already receiving the Guards Magazine) will need to provide their address in the relevant space in the form to receive the hard copy of the Guards Magazine.
