Major General C J Ghika
Major General Commanding, Household Division
Trooping of the Colour has commemorated the official birthday of the Sovereign since 1748. In modern times, it has typically been performed every year on the second Saturday in June on Horse Guards Parade in London. This year, for the second year running, the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that this 2021 Queen’s Birthday Parade is being held at Windsor Castle. Despite an ever more optimistic outlook for the future, the effects of the pandemic continue to affect millions across the United Kingdom. With the graduated return of events such as this Birthday Parade, which forms such an iconic part of the rich tapestry of our national life, we look forward with anticipation to brighter times ahead.
For F Company, Scots Guards, who will Troop the Colour of the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, this will be a momentous and particularly proud occasion. It will present the opportunity for the Scots Guards, and the wider Household Division, to reaffirm their loyalty to Her Majesty The Queen, expressing gratitude for the example and guidance that She has offered us and the whole Nation through these difficult times.
This unique Queen’s Birthday Parade in 2021, enlarged from last year, will once again bring together all of the elements of the Household Division for the celebration of Her Majesty’s 95th birthday.
