Band of the Grenadier Guards

Foreword

Major (Retired) J Gatehouse

Regimental Adjutant, Grenadier Guards

Music has been at the heart of the First or Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards for over 300 years and we are immensely proud that our fine Musicians continue to provide crucial State Ceremonial support that is the best in the world. Last year saw the Band take part in the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Belgium, parading through the City of Bruges (the birthplace of the Regiment) and prior to this it was involved in a concert tour of Japan. The relevance of Regimental music is just as important today as it has ever been.

The Band of the Grenadier Guards dates back to the year that Bach and Handel were born, it saw active service in both World Wars and plays its part in every major State occasion with enthusiasm and panache. The relationship between the Band and the wider Regiment remains very strong - evident from the Band’s recent joint deployment with the First Battalion as part of Op RESCRIPT (the MOD's assistance to the nation in support of COVID-19).

The Regimental Band capture perfectly the spirit of our proud and costly heritage in this recording and demonstrate afresh that, even when faced with challenging circumstances, the most famous military band in the world is still ready and able to perform to the very highest standard – as all Grenadiers are.
